The 'dirty water', armed riot and collective punishment in Israel

For three weeks, the Palestinians of East Jerusalem suffer collective punishment: the "dirty water", as it is called here. Whenever an event takes place - and is produced almost every night in the eastern part of the Holy City, since the events of Gaza - a white truck then passes on the places and projects a mysterious pestilence liquid. Everything was found soaked: the facades of houses and buildings, windows, sidewalks, pavement, shrubs, flowers... What is this product? No one knows, and the Israeli police remains very discreet on this subject. The smell that emanates from the "dirty water" assaults the nostrils. It sticks to clothes and skin, and it is impossible to get rid of it for two or three days.

At Souwaneh, one of the 'hot' neighborhoods of East Jerusalem, residents walk by covering the face or is pinching the nose. Person hangs out in the streets. What is the purpose of this collective punishment? Without a doubt. By requiring people to disappearing home, the police hope to prevent any new demonstrations. The trouble is that the 'dirty water' does not merely of maculer facades. It enters homes, remains in the curtains, carpets, cushions, and makes the life of the Palestinian people even more unbearable. Even more humiliating also. "Who are we that treated us with insecticides such as rats or mosquitoes?", asks Mounir angrily, worried for her children.

DESPAIR AND FATIGUE

Nahla, her neighbor in front, does not hide his despair and his fatigue. "I tried everything to start that smell of my house, liquid soap, vinegar, chlorine, nothing to do... », deplores, before highlighting the cruelty of the situation: in full ramadan, who fasted and did not drink a drop, had to throw pours water on his front porch, its steps, tiled floor...

A few kilometres from there, undergoes Issaouia district, he also regularly, this collective punishment. Faouzi, grocer and Baker, had to throw its stock on several occasions. "Three weeks ago, I engueulais youth who threw stones, less garbage and there were fire every night. I told them: 'you cause soldiers and you attract trouble. Go somewhere else!" Now, I do tell them more nothing. On the contrary. I'm so tired of Israel that I tell my neighbors: "Let them make..."
